Abstract:

Many image and video compression schemes perform the discrete cosine transform to represent images in frequency space. An analysis of a suite of images confirms the previous finding of a Laplacian distribution to model the luminance AC coefficients. This model is used in two ways: to reduce dequantization error and to speed up optimal quantization matrix generation.
