From live internet broadcasts to video on demand systems, the Berkeley Multimedia Research Center is at the cutting edge of multimedia research.

The Berkeley Internet Broadcasting System (BIBS) produces webcasts for selected EECS classes and seminars. A variation of the system is being run by Educational Technology Services and Information Systems and Technology on the Berkeley Campus to produce webcasts for several large undergraduate classes. More details are available at the webcast.berkeley site. More details about this system, including recent statistics on use are available at BIBS Report.

Currently active research projects include developing software to automate the production of Internet webcasts and distributed collaborations using the Access Grid. We are also working on the Open Mash streaming media toolkit which incorporates the Internet Mbone conferencing tools and other technologies for developing distributed streaming media applications. Lastly, we continue to deploy and experiment with audio/video equipment in studio classrooms.
